Discount Coffee Makers

Here's something I thought I'd pass on to all my fellow coffee lovers.

In the course of looking for a new coffee maker to buy online, I discovered that Amazon.com was having a big summer special sale. There were big discounts on several items.

The best part is that coffee makers are available at up to 70% discount. And there's also free shipping on selected items.

If you've been looking for a coffee maker, I guess this is a good time as any to head over to Amazon.com for the discounts.

The money you save could be spent on some great tasting gourmet coffee. :-)

Have a good weekend!

Do You Brew Your Coffee Like A Barista?

People often talk about brewing the "perfect cup of coffee". The task sounds like climbing Mount Everest at first but when you think about it in relation to the success of these global coffee chains, it may not be that difficult.

Think of it this way, whichever global coffee chain you patronize, they are obviously brewing their coffee perfectly otherwise they wouldn't be experiencing the kind of the patronage they have. You see all the queues and people stumbling over themselves just to fork over about $6 or $7 for one of their signature concoctions. So now you ask yourself can you really brew the perfect cup of coffee at home just like the barista at your favorite coffee bar?

Buying Coffee In High Places

In sports, there is the saying "height is might". Obviously it means athletes who are taller enjoy an advantage, most of the time at least. In the world of gourmet coffee, those that grow on the hills more than 3,500 feet in height are considered the finest. The premium crops if you will.

It comes as no surprise then that Jamaican Blue Mountain and Hawaiian Kona coffee are considered two of the world's best coffee beans. They are grown in the hills of their respective regions and their environmental conditions are almost carbon copies of each other. Twins separated at birth?

The Joy and Pain of Sumatran Mandheling Coffee

Indonesia is the biggest producer of coffee in Southeast Asia and third in the world. Their exports are from both the Arabica and Robusta stocks although gourmet coffee makes up only about ten percent of their export. This is due mainly to the roles a plague that broke out during the Dutch colonial days along with World War II and internal political strife have played in forming the Indonesian coffee industry.

Indonesian coffee is rather underrated. One of the finest exports from the Sumatra region is the Mandheling coffee. This type of coffee is often described as rich, low in acidity and syrupy. What people do not immediately realize is that it comes from a region that has been ravaged by ethnic cleansing which thankfully has been put to rest. The bigger problem now that this region faces is corruption brought about by politics.

Mother's Day Gift Idea: Gourmet Coffee

It is that time of year again when we pay tribute to the single, most important lady in our lives--our mom. Mother's day is often a day filled with gifts and activities as we try to make it as special for her as possible. And because mother knows best, she probably does not even want you to go out for your way just to get her something extraordinary or expensive. This may be a good opportunity to introduce her to something simple yet novel--gourmet coffee.

Coffee Is Like Wine, Yet It's Not

You have probably heard it from some distinguished, well dressed coffee "expert" saying that coffee is just like wine. Then you wait for the reason why coffee is like wine, and you get none. So either nod your head in agreement, shake your head in disagreement and disappointment or shrug your shoulders and say to yourself "what is this person talking about?"

Now do not get the impression that drinkers of either beverage should be at odds with each other. In fact it is in their differences that make these two great drinks so alike.

Meet Joffrey

Joffrey said something to the effect that "the best coffee doesn't come from Seattle". This got my curiosity piqued. Obviously it's a dig at some of the popular global coffee houses and bars located there. So where do the "best" coffees come from exactly? I decided to go ahead and meet Joffrey.

My search led me to Joffreys Coffee & Tea Company. Turns out, Joffrey's has a passion for both coffee and jazz. Great! We share similar interests, we were off to a good start.
